A past President of the South African Optometric Association, Peter has a special interest in the fitting of specialty contact lenses, particularly for the visual rehabilitation of patients with irregular corneas arising from specific eye conditions or post-surgical complications. Peter also holds registration in both the UK and Australia. Peter is keen on sport, especially golf, and also enjoys amateur woodwork and novice guitar playing.
Vin joined the practice in the late 1960s after doing a Doctorate in Optometry at the University of Houston in Texas, USA. He has a keen interest in contact lenses and has extensive knowledge in their application, particularly around irregular corneas including keratoconus and post-corneal transplant eyes. Vin practises at the Newlands branch only and is a keen naturalist and fisherman. He has an extensive Africana book collection and enjoys birdwatching. He also holds registration in both the UK and Australia.
After some time spent working in the UK, Murray re-joined Saks, Taylor and Brauer to become a partner in the practice in 2007. Murray has a special interest in paediatric optometry, myopia control in children and fitting contact lenses on corneas that are irregular due to disease, trauma or post-corneal transplant. Murray enjoys low vision work and has completed postgraduate studies in Management of Ocular Complications of Diabetes from the New England College of Optometrists in the USA. Murray is an average guitarist and a below average mountain biker. His main strength on race day is the snacks at the waterpoints.
Karin joined the Saks, Taylor and Brauer team in 2019. She has a keen interest in fitting soft contact lenses, multifocal spectacles and specialized lenses to help people meet the demanding visual needs of their daily tasks. Karin regularly attends conferences and stays abreast of scientific developments in ocular pathology. Karin is the proud mom of two boys and she loves spending time outdoors with her family.
Annelize joined Saks and Taylor at the start of 2021, and brings an exciting new energy to the team at STB. She has a masters degree in Optometry and has extensive experience in Low vision, complex contact lenses as well as general optometry.
Brendan has been in practice at STB Optometrists for the past 22 years and is a Fellow of the British Dispensing Opticians. Brendan enjoys optimizing the spectacle lens design and frame choice to provide the best visual experience possible for a specific individual’s prescription and ocular requirements. Brendan provides expertise on a consultancy basis to the South African Optometric Association on matters of dispensing. Brendan is also pretty good with a steak on the coals and plays squash to counter the effects of braaiing.
As a high myope who has worn glasses since the age of eight, Hildé appreciates the challenges faced by many of our patients. Hilde has a keen eye for helping patients choose the perfect frame to optimize their lenses, and she enjoys working with children and elderly patients alike. Hildé is gregarious and outgoing, and she will encourage you to use your eyes to see possibilities, not problems. Hilde loves reading, live music, her Australian cattle dog, and trying new things.
